This Paleo Apple and Honey Glazed Ham is the perfect star for your holiday table. It’s sweet, savoury and oh so delicious.
Is it weird that the English generally have turkey for Christmas dinner? I’m not sure if it’s because we have generally just had turkey for Thanksgiving a few weeks ago, but my American family always, always, always has ham as our Christmas meal! And this Paleo Apple and Honey Glazed Ham is my family’s version with a major upgrade.
This ham is baked with a slow simmered honey, apple and mustard sauce that is all kinds of tangy + sticky + wonderful.
It really doesn’t take much effort on the part of the cook, which means you can feel free to cuddle up with a cup of hot cocoa or mulled wine with a Bing Crosby movie on until it’s ready to serve.
Paleo Apple and Honey Glazed Ham? Absolute Christmas perfection.
Ingredients in this Paleo Apple and Honey Glazed Ham
I know that holiday recipes often feel like lots of work – loads of ingredients and lots of steps. But, not this one! This ham comes together so quickly too which is such a bonus. Here’s what you need:
- a ham – choose whatever size works for your fam!
- honey – you could probably use maple syrup too if you don’t have honey.
- apple juice – you could really use any juice here, orange or apple cider or whatever!
- apple cider vinegar – this adds the loveliest tang to the sauce.
- dijon mustard – a bit of heat, a bit of zing, this is KEY!
And that’s it! Because ham is naturally quite salty, you don’t even need to worry about seasoning. It’s already done for you!
Putting this Holiday Ham Together
The making of this paleo holiday apple and honey glazed ham is pretty much as simple as the ingredient list. Since a ham is generally already smoked and cooked, the only thing you need to do is to warm it through. I love cutting a scored diamond pattern on top to make it nice and crispy. So really, whack it in the oven and let it go!
While the ham is in the oven, the ingredients for the sauce go in a pan on the stove to simmer. It will be quite thin when you first mix it together, but as it cooks it will thicken up…generally by 1/2! It will be more like a glaze that you can then brush or spoon over the ham.
The last set is to pop the glazed ham back in the oven to allow it to brown up slightly more until it’s glowing and golden!
Be sure to save the extra sauce for the side, it really does take this to the next level!
